Better Connectivity, Better Inspections with Starlink

Starlink integration enables reliable, real-time data uploads from remote areas with limited cellular service.

At Noteworthy AI, we’ve been working to raise the bar on how fast and easily utilities can inspect their grid.

Our vehicle-mounted AI cameras already enable infrastructure inspections at scale, simply by driving fleet vehicles during routine operations. These systems deliver powerful results, but real-time visibility depends on staying connected. Cellular networks make this possible in many cases, but in remote or compromised areas, cellular coverage can be limited or unavailable.

To solve this, we have integrated Starlink into our platform. With this upgrade, utilities can now transmit inspection data from virtually anywhere, capturing more information, more reliably. This enhancement unlocks a new level of coverage, completeness, and responsiveness across the grid.

Here is why it matters and how it works:

The Hidden Bottleneck in Faster Grid Inspections

Mounted on your existing fleet vehicles, our AI-powered smart cameras capture and analyze high-resolution images of your grid in real-time to identify pole defects, inventory components and more. Most of the time, this data flows seamlessly to the cloud over cellular networks, but in remote areas or challenging conditions, that connection can break down.

Rural routes, mountainous terrain, and storm-damaged areas can all interrupt cellular service. That leaves field teams unable to transmit data until they’re back to a covered area or connected to Wi-Fi, which can introduce delays and leave operations teams in the dark. As utilities move toward faster, more automated inspections, every minute of delay can impact decision-making.

The Upgrade: Starlink for Always-On Inspections

To remove that dependency, we’ve added Starlink satellite connectivity to our solution, allowing for super-fast, reliable real-time data uploads, even in areas where cellular service is spotty, inconsistent, or unavailable.

With the addition of Starlink, inspection vehicles stay reliably connected throughout their routes, whether operating in remote terrain or navigating post-storm damage.

Enhancements for Storm Response & Beyond

1. Real-Time Insights, From Anywhere

Starlink ensures that image data, pole detections, and AI-powered assessments are uploaded immediately, no more waiting to reconnect if cell service is down. Whether your vehicles are in the field for routine inspections or storm recovery, your operations center sees what they see, as it happens.

This continuous stream of information supports faster decisions, more proactive maintenance, and better coordination between teams on the ground and in the office.

2. Full-Route Visibility with Raw Image Capture

Although our system is capable of capturing raw image data regardless of connectivity, transmitting those high-resolution images in real-time is another challenge. Cellular networks often lack the bandwidth to support continuous image uploads, especially in remote areas.

With Starlink, our AI cameras can now capture and transmit raw images every second, delivering a full visual record of the route, not just snapshots of pole-mounted assets. This added layer of visibility helps teams gain more context, identify additional issues (such as vegetation or unreported hazards) and better understand what is happening across the grid.

In the image below, blue dots represent utility poles that have been captured and analyzed, while yellow dots represent raw image frames collected along the route, for a more comprehensive view of the grid.

A Smarter, More Connected Inspection Workflow

Starlink is more than a product update or connectivity boost, it’s a foundation for the next phase of utility inspections.

By enabling continuous data flow, we can support richer datasets, faster AI processing, and more collaborative tools in Inspect Cloud 2.0. Whether it’s syncing inspection progress in real-time or unlocking smarter analytics, this integration makes it easier to manage your grid with speed, accuracy, and confidence.
